POSITION TITLE: Tenure Track Faculty - System Dynamics and Controls

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Engineering department serves approximately 930 undergraduate students and 80 graduate students, which includes 73 percent students of color, 31 percent first generation, and 41 percent underrepresented minorities. The department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree programs in Mechanical Engineering. Most recently, the Department was ranked 15th in the nation among non-doctorate granting institutions by the U.S. News & World Report. These programs emphasize practical applications of engineering principles in the areas of design, manufacturing, materials science, aerospace, energy, and thermal sciences.

POSITION DETAILS:

The tenure-track position is full-time and will be at the Assistant Professor rank. The estimated salary range for this position is $88,000 - $105,000, with an anticipated annual salary of $93,000 depending upon qualifications and experience. JOB DUTIES:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories
  • Developing curriculum, advising students and other instructionally-related duties
  • Working cooperatively with a diverse student population and with faculty colleagues on department, college and university-wide committees
  • Engaging in scholarly activities, including research and externally-funded projects
  • Supervising Master's student research Providing service to the campus and community
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
    • ABD applicants will be accepted. If ABD, all requirements for the degree must be completed by August 2024
    • A strong background in Modeling and Simulation of Dynamic Systems including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, thermal, or a combination thereof
    • A strong background in Control Systems Design
    • Experience with applications of dynamic systems and controls to sensors, machinery and/or vehicle systems
    • A strong commitment to quality teaching
    • Ability to work with diverse groups
      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Additional knowledge and expertise in topics such as vehicle design, accident reconstruction, biomechanics, multi-energy systems, sensors, actuators, distributed network protocol, fault tolerant control and autonomous vehicles
      • Experience with the use or teaching with modeling and simulation software like MATLAB, SIMULINK, CAMPG, SOLIDWORKS MOTION, PYTHON or other languages
      • PATRAN, NASTRAN, ANSYS, Simcenter STAR-CCM+, or other FEA modeling software
      • Use of block diagrams and bond graph methods for modeling and simulation is desirable
      • University-level teaching and/or industrial experience
      • Capability to assist and guide student projects at the undergraduate and graduate level
